Vogler Project: Plank Repairs |
|
Many
of the plank edges were damaged or had suffered rot. The damaged wood was
removed with a chisel.
At the ends of the damaged areas, the end-grain was cut at an angle (from the front to the back) to form small scarf joints for the new pieces.

repaired plank edge. The new wood is epoxied in and sanded flush.
Small scarf joints are used at the ends.
This picture also shows the top of a new rivet that was added after the plank had been repaired.

| The repaired edges are planed flush with the original plank with a rabbet plane. | |||
| At the stem and stern most of the planks
were damaged by fasteners that had been replaced several times over
the years..
The holes were cleaned up and then filled with thickened epoxy.
