Vogler Project: Current Status |
|
Nearly done. New stem in place (still needs shaping), new breasthook, new gunwales (in and out) new oarlocks, repaired seat knees, new transom, new transom knee, repaired sternsheets (still being installed) | ||
| The new breasthook. The original was missing so we created piece with a traditional pattern | |||
| The new transom (with the original builder's stamp inlayed into it) and new oak knees. The sternsheets are ready to go in. | |||
| During
Vancouver Wooden Boat Festival the Vogler was put on display and left out in the rain.
After this, many of the 'bronze' screws we had used began to rust!!
It turns out they were phoney bronze - lightly electroplated over
ferrous metal.
Unfortunately, they were not easy to remove, as they had been glued in with epoxy. To break the bond, the epoxy was softened by heating the screws up with a soldering iron.
